I am a weaver, not a construction engineer! Lately, however, I've become a construction engineer of sorts. The reason is that I have a gallery show in Ashland, OR in October. The gallery (http://www.illahegallery.com) focuses on art for the home, and I will be showing hand-dyed, handwoven wall hangings, placemats, and towels. The challenge has been to figure out the best way to show the placemats.
I wasn't assigned any table space; moreover, placing the mats on a table would have been way too simple! So, I more or less had to think of a way to display the mats on a wall. Constructing a contraption has involved numerous trips to the hardware store and much time sawing, sanding, and staining the dowels, searching for clothespins and O rings, and figuring out how to put it all together.

This sort of works, though I'm not too pleased with the double strands hanging from one hook. I could put the lower mat on its own hook, but it might snag the upper mat. Please! if anyone has a better solution between now and the end of September, let me know! In the meantime, I'm going back to weaving!!
